A NEW community centre has opened its doors in Berwick at the Braeside Park village.
The $130,000 project has enabled the revamp of its facilities, with computer workstation spaces, expanded kitchen and extended outside living area.
City of Casey councillor Louise Berkelmans opened the locally-designed facility on Thursday 11 August, which has doubled the centre’s shared space.
Braeside Park resident and activities committee president Mary Tasker said the community centre would enable residents to expand the range of activities offered and serve as a place where residents can interact with family, friends and the broader community.
Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria CEO Phillip Wohlers said the centre had already proved quite popular.
“There has always been a strong community at Braeside Park, and this investment has given that community spirit a new lease of life,“ Mr Wohlers said.
“The community room plays a vital role in bringing people together to chat, watch a movie, or to take part in exercise classes, or whatever they want to do.
“It is a centrepiece of our philosophy to provide a supportive environment that creates a sense of belonging for all our residents.”
