Sad admiration

IT IS with sadness but admiration I feel compelled to contribute to “Letters” of what most of us in the community have toward Peter, Chase, Holly and Mia Blackwood. As I read the article on the front page of last week’s Gazette; I held back tears.
Tears of sadness regarding these tragic circumstances; tears of anger regarding the atrocity of Kylie’s death and tears of hope for Peter and the Blackwood children.
I admire the Blackwoods and congratulate them and their extended family in raising funds for the White Ribbon Foundation.
As I did not know Kylie personally, I do remember a time when my husband and I were seeking property and met Peter. First impressions were of a good man, genuinely trying to help us find a home/property to live and raise a family.
I believe the support of family and community is the essence of belonging and survival; and I truly believe the Blackwoods have it in spades.
As readers of this newspaper and residents of the Cardinia Shire Council, I believe that we all belong as a community and need to continue in supporting each other in times of challenge and in times of joy.
Again, my sincere congratulations to all involved with the Kylie Blackwood / White Ribbon Foundation.
I’m sure Kylie would be looking down from above, smiling and proud of you all.
