BRIDGING the gap between snowboarding and BMX riding is Cockatoo’s Dean Manson who took out the judge’s pick during the third running of the hybrid competition known as the “Red Bull Dirt Pipe”.
The event held over the Queen’s birthday long weekend in the middle of Victoria is centred around a four-metre high dirt half pipe similar to a snowboarding pipe, but as the name suggests, it is made of dirt rather than snow.
And it is not your average half pipe. The 120m course is sprinkled with wall rides, hips, and street-inspired extensions that have been designed to push the limits of the 60 handpicked BMX riders.
Dean Manson was one of those picked to take part in the event and after three days of flips, jumps and tricks the local BMX rider was awarded $500 for his daring rides.
