Thousands of chickens perish

About 20,000 chickens were killed in a shed fire at a property on Bald Hill Road in Nar Nar Goon in the early hours on Wednesday 17 April, with about 30 CFA volunteers on site throughout the day.

According to a CFA spokesperson, 16 CFA units responded to the shed fire alongside FRV units at about 6.06am, including units from Nar Nar Goon, Pakenham, Kooweerup, Toomuc, Bayles, Yellingbo, Scoreby, Cardinia, Casey, Maryknoll and Tynong responding.

“The shed 30m x 300m was fully alight and a large amount of chickens were deceased,“ the spokesperson said.

“The incident was deemed under control at 6.20am and deemed safe at 5.21pm.

“The relevant power company was called to the scene.

“Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were also called to the scene.“

The incident was not declared as suspicious.
