Britchford burns it up at Drouin

Wednesday

The midweek competition this week was a Par event with 81 players greeting the starter.

The best score for the day, and winner of C grade, went to Peter Britchford with a fantastic score of plus-6.

A late back-nine charge from Joe Kirby saw him win A grade on a countback with a great score of plus-5, while B grade went to Michael Smith who had plus-4 for the day.

Down the line balls went to Stephen Mooney +5, John Gidley +4, David Low and Eddy Van Der Plight +3, and to Barry Baskett, Mike Waring, Bruce Salmon and John Wolswinkel with +2.

Nearest the pins went to Noel Robertson 5th, Craig Armstrong 8th, Phillippe Alleaume 10th and Noel Brereton on the 14th.

Saturday

Round two of the club championships were played on Saturday as well as the daily stroke competition.

Very strong, easterly winds greeted players with scoring being difficult.

Two players top scored for the day and with both being in B grade, it was Warren Cook who prevailed on a countback with nett 69. A grade saw Shane Davidson win with a nett 71 and C grade was also won with a nett 71 going to Jack Jarred.

Down the line balls went to Nick Shannon 69, Darren Adams 71, David Axford and Bob Simpson 72, Henk Van Duren, Lachie Bambridge, Bill Toogood, Phil Adams and John White 73 and Paul Duivenvoorden 74.

Nearest the pins went to Mark Allen 5th, Tim Bethune 8th, Michael Smith 10th and Freddie Roknic on the 14th.

Next week’s events are Stableford on Wednesday with Saturday seeing the final round of the 2022 Club Championships.

DROUIN LADIES

Last Tuesday was a 4BBB stableford event in support of the Royal Women’s Hospital.

The winners with a fantastic score of 49 points were Dagma Forbes (35) and Marg Murray (48). Runners up were Robyn Carvill (46) and Ethel Manley (32) with 48 points and down the line balls went to Deb Daniels (29) and Ann Roberts (27) with 45 points.

Nearest the pins went to Meagan Ford on the 10th – 20 centimetres from the pin earning her the Crow’s Nest – and to Susie Menzel on the 14th. No one hit the green on the 5th or 8th hole.

On Saturday 12 February, the ladies played a stroke event and the winner was Judy Dixon (20) with 72 nett, from Di Sullivan (16) 74 nett and Helen Moon (26) on 75 nett.

Today we welcome the Garfield ladies for our annual Drouin/Garfield Challenge.

This event was not able to be played in 2021 due to Covid so it will be exciting to finally hold this event again.

Players are now able to play social competition on Thursdays. Entries are also open now for the Club Championships which commence next Tuesday on 22 February.
