Masks have returned to being optional for all public spaces at West Gippsland Hospital, only just over a week after the hospital made them mandatory due to a Covid spike.

On Friday 27 October, the Warragul hospital announced staff and visitors were no longer required to where a mask.

This comes eight days after the hospital made the decision to make them mandatory after an increase in Covid-19 hospitalisations.

All staff and visitors are no longer required to wear a mask in shared public areas at the hospital including corridors, lifts, the main reception area and cafeteria.

Masks are still available throughout the hospital for anyone who wants to use one, or who must put on a mask to visit patients with respiratory illnesses.

The Pandemic Management Committee at the hospital has made these decisions as they monitor the ongoing situation.

The committee will continue to monitor the risks and make changes to their approach as needed.

The hospital said the safety and wellbeing of their patients, visitors and staff remains their number one priority.
