Staff in schools across the Diocese of Sale celebrated World Teachers’ Day on Friday 27 October.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Mr Paul Velten expressed gratitude to educators and all school staff for their passion and commitment to ensure students have the best possible learning opportunities.

“World Teachers’ Day is more than just a celebration. It is an opportunity to celebrate the value of the teaching profession and shine the spotlight on the remarkable teachers, both new and experienced, who are going the extra mile to advance their skills and leadership through professional development or higher degree study,” Mr Velten said.

Over the past year, 39 teachers working in Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Diocese successfully completed a Master of Education in Evidence-Based Teaching, while a further five graduated with a Master of Education and Theology, through sponsored study.

“Taking up additional studies while teaching demonstrates the dedication these teachers have in deepening their skills to provide the best possible education for students,” Mr Velten said.

Mr Velten said supporting staff through sponsored study is a major focus of Catholic education.

“Catholic schools also offer a number of scholarship and bursary programs to support staff career development, while new teachers are supported through the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited (DOSCEL) Graduate Induction and Mentor Program,” he said.

“This encourages teaching excellence, collaboration, and career satisfaction, which helps retain talented individuals within our Catholic schools.”

“World Teachers’ Day, is an opportunity for everyone take the opportunity to thank teachers and school staff for their dedication and pursuit of excellence to support students to reach their full potential.

“Happy World Teachers’ Day to all of school staff across our Diocese.”
