Thousand of plants will flourish to re-vegetate an empty plot of land in Garfield after a public planting day on Sunday 7 May.

Ninety-five people got their hands dirty to plant a total of 3860 plants in a plot of land along Lovers Lane.

The day was a joint project by Melbourne Water and the local Cannibal Creek Catchment Landcare Group (CCL).

The land includes the Walkers Road Drain which feeds into the Bunyip River, making it a key biolink corridor for native animals.

The important one of which is the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot.

The project aims to re-vegetate the area to allow a better environment for animals to reside and migrate along the drain, particularly the bandicoot.

Coffee was served by the local Bean Busters van, breakfast provided by Garfield and Bunyip Rotary Club and morning tea served by Sherwood Park Orchard.

Cardinia Shire Councillor Graeme Moore and State Member for Narracan, Wayne Farnham, attended the day.

CCL thanked all who attended, coming from Garfield and beyond, as well as the neighbouring landcare groups who supported the day, such as Bessie/Ararat Creek, Bunyip, Intrepid, Toomuc Valley and Westernport Swamp.
