Petrol prices have reached new highs as the war between Russia and Ukraine escalates, driving up fuel prices as sanctions are placed on Russia.

According to the Australian Institute of Petroleum, Victoria’s weekly average petrol price is sitting at 179.9 cents per litre.

In Kooweerup, the Victoria’s weekly average price of petrol has reached 197.4 cents per litre.

In Pakenham, drivers are looking at 191 cents to 196 cents per litre.

Warragul residents have a reason to smile however, as they remain the suburb with the cheapest petrol available – sitting under 181 cents per litre at BP Warragul.

Prices can differ between cities and regional areas, with prices between regions varying up to 3.3 per cent.

EnergyQuest chief executive Graeme Bethune said petrol prices are expected to climb even higher over the coming weeks.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they got to $2.50,“ Mr Bethune said.
