In a bid to keep their year 12 students motivated, Kooweerup Secondary College teachers delivered care packages to their students’ doors last week.

The study snack packs were organised by senior learning community leader Tania Miller, with help from Country Grind Café in Lang Lang.

“We has seen other schools doing similar and thought, ‘what can we do?’,” Ms Miller said.

“We thought, ‘What do the kids respond most to? Food.’

“So it was something for them to snack on and for them to know we miss them.”

Each pack had a Powerade, muffin, chocolate bar, slice, lollies, popcorn and a cookie, as well as a card with a note from the teachers.

“It was something to cheer the year 12 students up. Motivation is a big factor right now,” Ms Miller said.

“It’s been really tough and they’re finding it hard having experienced two years of lockdown now.

“Although they haven’t missed out on as many things as last year’s year 12 students, it’s been in and out and in and out rather than one big hunk of time.

“Last year at least they could get into a routine.”

The teachers travelled as far east as to Korumburra, north to Noojee and west to Narre Warren, Langwarrin.

“Our students come from a very big area,” Ms Miller said.

“It was a long tiring day but it was definitely worth it to see the smiles on their faces.”
