New State Government funding has been made available for registered wildlife shelters and carers in the Cardinia Shire.

The 2020-21 Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants are now open with $200,000 available to help wildlife shelters and carers look after sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.

An extra $30,000 will also be made available to key wildlife institutions and priority projects, Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale announced.

“We are fortunate to have many people in our community passionate about the care and protection of our wildlife and it’s great to be able to support them and what they do through these grants,” she said.

Wildlife rehabilitators can apply for individual grants of $3000, an increase of $500 on last year, to help fund items such as food, rescue equipment, petrol, veterinary fees and new enclosures.

“Victoria’s wildlife carers do a fabulous job supporting our precious wildlife,” Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said.

“We’re proud to support this important work and help make sure it continues.

Since 2008 the Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants program has provided $2.3 million in individual grants through an annual competitive grant process, and organisation grants to key wildlife institutions.

Grants applications close on 24 September.
