Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) has announced it has purchased land in Bunyip North for its new saleyard facility in West Gippsland.

With the site being 84 acres in size, the complex will provide enough space for the new facility and a large buffer zone around it, with no housing within 600m.

The size of the property, which is located off Tonimbuk Road, will allow space for future holding paddock facilities and agroforestry production.

While the design is still being finalised and permits obtained, the property will continue to be used for farming purposes.

VLE will seek to incorporate several environmental enhancements into the overall property including solar power, carbon capture and methane reduction.

The industry is being assured the Pakenham saleyards won’t close until the new facility at Bunyip is constructed.
