The tight knit community of Garfield came together to hold a silent auction, raffle and fashion parade to raise money to replace possessions lost in the Bunyip bushfires.

Manager of Garfield Community shop Helen Davey teamed up with her friend Jan Moxey to raise over $8000 for victims of the fires.

“There was a need for help, we wanted to help people,” Ms Davey said.

“These people didn’t necessarily lose their houses however they did receive significant damage to their properties, including the loss of their sheds and fences.”

About 200 people attended the Garfield Community Hall on Saturday 11 May.

Models participating in the fashion parade were wearing clothes from the Garfield Community Show.

“The general consensus was everyone enjoyed themselves,” Ms Davey said.

“The highlight was a ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ performance by local volunteers and members of the Country Style Meats Butcher and Smokehouse.”

Captain Koala also attended the event to perform with children as a tribute to the work the CFA did during the fires and the work they continue to do.
