Nar Nar Goon is known as the mural town, with artwork adorning a lot of the Main Street’s iconic buildings.

Last week, a group of four-year-olds added another pretty special one to the kindergarten fence – a picture of a fire truck with the words Thanks You emblazoned across it.

It is positioned perfectly at the end of Spencer Street, well in sight of all the emergency services vehicles leaving the Nar Nar Goon Recreation Reserve, which for more than a week has been the staging area for those battling the Bunyip State Park blaze.

The mural was the initiative of the kindergarten kids, who have been more than impressed with the number of fire trucks passing by all day.

But their teachers may have had a hand in it as well.

One of them, Linda English, is a member of the Bayles CFA and spent 22 hours in the fire affected park last Sunday, 3 March. Her crew was trapped twice.

The other teacher, Denise Mason, was a part of the culinary army providing food and refreshments for the emergency services personnel at the staging area.

“The kids really wanted to do something to say thanks – and the sign has gone down really well,” Linda said.

When the Gazette turned up to take a photo of the kinder artists with their sign, four trucks drove past and acknowledged the effort by sounding the horn and waving.

This week the kids are having a Yellow and Red dress up day, with all proceeds going to the Bayles CFA’s Fire Relief Fund.
