WGCA SUB-DISTRICT DIVISION
REVIEW – ROUND 12 (DAY TWO)
Lang Lang has relinquished top spot on the ladder after Cardinia shocked the Swamp Tigers with an outstanding bowling performance.
Chasing 233, the Swamp Tigers’ top and middle order was rummaged through by Trent Wheller (4/26) and Josh Browne (3/45) to leave them in dire trouble at 6/24.
Cam Williams (40) and skipper Clint Fulton (33) tried in vain to get their side back into the contest, but the Swamp Tigers were eventually rolled for 128 in 56.4 overs.
As a result, Catani is now top of the table with two rounds to play after they stuttered their way to victory against Tooradin.
The Cats had issues chasing down the Gulls’ 116 initially, with the home side 7/103 before Dustin Peebles (71 not out) steered the ship and got them home unscatched.
They batted for a while longer, before being bowled out for 200.
Daniel Quinn (8/86) was extraordinary in the narrow loss, almost single handily winning the game with a brilliant bowling performance that saw him virtually bowl all day from one end.
The Gulls had another late dip, finishing on 1/25 off 20 overs.
Down at Narre Warren East Reserve, Aura Vale fell 60 runs short of chasing Gembrook’s mammoth 263 on day one.
Despite a fighting 81 to Paul Hoenderdaal, the Lakers were bowled out for 204 after a bag of wickets to Steve McRae (6/72).
Brookers skipper Geordie Scott (2/67) was also impressive after his brilliant century last week.
And finally, Pakenham (9/218 and 3/48) were far too strong for Nyora (46 and 8/163) at Lakeside Oval, with the Lions virtually assuring themselves a finals spot with the win.
