Pampering skills put to the test

A salon and pamper day at ECG College provided students with a fun hands-on learning experience.
The Pakenham campus hosted the student-led day, which saw staff and students treated to manicures and given a fresh new look with make-up trials, hair styling and henna body art.
Attendees also enjoyed a Mexican-inspired lunch and damper made from the student-built pizza oven.
“A team pool competition, table tennis and a monopoly challenge were also run by students,” head of school Jamie Robertson said.
Mr Robertson said the VCAL program had small class sizes with learning focused on real world skills, as evident in the pamper day.
“The practical learning experiences offered are in addition to core literacy and numeracy tasks which are incorporated into project-based learning,” Mr Robertson said.
“Students love it because the learning has application to real world skills for work and life.”
