They’re best known for whipping lawns into tip top-shape … but these mowers won’t be cutting any grass.
Instead they travel up to speeds of 80km/h all in support of local community groups.
As demonstrated at VicMow’s latest race at Lang Lang at the weekend, altered mowers are becoming the next big thing in sport.
They’re fast, they’re fun and they an all-inclusive activity.
VicMow’s spokesman Marty Saunders said the “quirky” sport was fast attracting a following for being family-friendly, cheap and a “hell of a ride”.
“It’s a lot of adrenaline, at the end of the day we’re still racing, just on mowers,” Mr Saunders said.
The Victorian-based club travels across the state, raising money for various causes.
Lang Lang’s race was in conjunction with the Lang Lang Kooweerup Rotary Club in support of a retirement village residents are hoping to see developed.
“We’re all about helping local communities, that’s how the race came about,” Mr Saunders said.
“When the racing starts off we go, but it’s not cut-throat racing. That’s not what we’re about … our purpose is to help raise funds.”
Mr Saunders described Sunday’s event as “a bit wet and muddy” but a lot of fun, with riders ranging from seven years to 67 years old.
“And that’s what’s so great about it, anyone can join the club,” he said.
He welcomed interested people of all ages and abilities to contact VicMow via its website to learn more about the popular sport.
