The Upper Beaconsfield community will unite this Sunday for a family day in reflection of the Black Saturday bushfires.
The town’s Village Festival stemmed from the devastating February 2009 bushfires and has since become an annual event in celebration of community spirit.
Festival committee member Michelle Greenshields said following the fires the community was devastated not only by the loss of houses but the largest loss of life across the state.
“It was clear the community needed something (positive) so some local residents came up with the idea to celebrate the rebuilding from the devastation with a festival,” Ms Greenshields said.
“And the council has really supported to the years to ensure it keeps going ahead.”
Kicking off with a family fun run at 9am, the festival includes an art exhibition, children’s rides, live music and plenty of food and market stalls.
Entry to the event is free, but children can purchase a $10 wristband for unlimited rides during the day.
Ms Greenshields said Sunday would be a fun day out for the whole family.
“It’s all community focused, and family-friendly,” she said.
“All our local community groups get behind it as well. Everyone just comes together for a really enjoyable day.”
