EMERALD SES rushed to the scene of an elderly horse that had fallen on its side in Macclesfield on Wednesday.
The horse, Penny, had fallen between a barbed wire fence and a large mound of brown dirt, and was unable to get back to her feet.
The Emerald SES crew of five were called to the incident at about 12.30pm on Wednesday 5 October and teamed up with Macclesfield CFA members, using specialist equipment to bring Penny back on all fours.
Emerald SES unit controller Ben Owen said he believed the horse had medical issues and had been on her side for two hours.
“As I understand it, the horse had been sedated while it had been on its side and when we got there she was about ready to be helped to her feet,” Mr Owen said.
“It took us about 10 minutes to rescue the horse – get her on to a large plastic sheet and back up again.
“I think it was a combination of being wedged between a fence and a pile of dirt, and the ground being wet from the rain that she’d fallen over and struggled to get up.
“She seemed to be fit and healthy, eating grass in the paddock when we left.”
