STREET art inspired by the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges has recently been completed in Cockatoo.
Artist Jenni Ivins has designed and painted a tribute to the natural habitat of the town, focusing on the native flora and fauna.
The art was undertaken as part of the Connecting Communities Arts project – a program which aims to provide public space for local artists to display their work. In Cockatoo, space has been provided on the northern exterior wall of Brunch on McBride cafe on McBride Street.
Artists participating in the project are provided with mentoring from a local professional artist and provided with a space to paint on. Working under the concept of ‘active art’, the walls can then be painted over and returned to a blank canvas for the next artist to work with.
Funding for the project was provided through the Cardinia Shire Council Small Change Arts Grants, with Dulux Australia supplying the paint required.
McBride Street is one of three sites involved in the project – the others are located in Emerald and Gembrook.
