Reaching out to residents

Monday night's Cardinia Shire Council meeting was held in Lang Lang. 138931

CARDINIA Shire Council held Monday night’s council meeting at Lang Lang as part of a bid to reach out to residents in every area of the shire.
A confidential matter was discussed at the Civic Centre before councillors and staff made their way to the Lang Lang Community Centre where the meeting began at 7pm.
The council’s Manager of Governance Doug Evans said the practice was started in January 2013 and aims to engage communities.
“The decision was based on making council meetings more accessible to community members, regardless of where they live in the shire,” he said.
“Since 2013, council has held meetings in Emerald, Beaconsfield, Pakenham, Nar Nar Goon, Kooweerup and Lang Lang.”
He added that a 2016 meeting was scheduled to take place in Gembrook and that the new council would decide on the location of future meetings.
