WE ALL love quality Australian-made paper, but Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent took it to a new level during a speech to parliament.
On Wednesday 2 December, Mr Broadbent posed a series of Christmas riddles to the rest of the house.
The greetings all made sense eventually, with the Liberal MP concluding by wishing Australian papermakers and parliamentary staff a very merry Christmas.
Read Russell’s Christmas message below:
“Is it just that it’s Christmas, is it just that it’s Christmas that you see Penny Wong and Eric Abetz waltzing down the corridors of power in hilarious camaraderie, or is it something else?
Is it just Christmas that we see Dennis Jensen arm-in-arm with Malcolm Turnbull, rollicking together as one over climate change?
Is it just Christmas that we see the clerks and the stewards of the house lined up in the speaker’s corridor, arms over shoulders in the throes of Zorba the Greek, or is it something else?
Is it just Christmas that would see Tanya Plibersek and Julie Bishop in lockstep, kicking their heels high to the chorus of New York New York, or is it just something else?
Is it just Christmas that would see Clive Palmer, Adam Bandt and Corey Bernardi in three-part harmony singing ‘We three kings of orient are … ’, or is it something else?
No it’s not Christmas, of course, of course, of course, they’ve all just opened a ream of Australian-made paper.
Merry Christmas to everyone who makes Australian-made paper and a special Christmas thankyou to all the parliamentary support staff, without whom we could not do our job.”
