THE Gold Coast hosted Australia’s brightest aerobics stars at the School Aerobics National Championships on Saturday 15 August.
Berwick’s St Catherine’s Primary School sent their team ‘Quick Stepin Cuties’ to compete, who walked away with Gold.
Taelyn Prince, Ebony Peak, Ashlee Duhau, Christy Thomas, Phoebe Newman and Alicia Swaris represented Victoria in their division and their win makes them the top in Australia in the Primary Stage 1 Classic Section.
Training started in March with training sessions running before, during and after school and even on holidays.
At the preliminaries in March at Geelong, the team achieved second place.
They returned to Geelong for the State Championships in June and placed first, letting them go on to represent Victoria at Nationals.
Their school community hosted fund-raisers to fly the team to the Gold Coast for the National Championships.
The large audience and panel of judges didn’t stop the girls from achieving a total score of 80.09 and walking away as national champions.
Head coach Rebecca Keating was proud of their efforts.
“The school community of St Catherine’s are thrilled with their Quick Stepin Cuties, to reach a national competitive level at the age of 12 is an amazing achievement, to come back to Berwick as national champions exceeded all hopes,” she said.
