Show of strength

THE future of the Yakkerboo Art Show is bright thanks to a dedicated committee.
New president Jillian Ronald said it had been the Cardinia community’s art show since 1976 and the committee is busy preparing for this year’s show coming up on 30 May to 1 June.
“When the call went out for help to keep it running, members of the community stepped up,” Jillian said.
“We couldn’t let this great event fade away.
“I went along to the annual general meeting to see how I could help and ended up as president.”
While it was a tricky way to start, Jillian said she has some new committee members as well as some of the more experienced helpers.
“Bronwyn Fleming, president of last year’s very successful art show with secretary Wendy Andrews and treasurer Graham Treloar all have many years of experience on the Yakkerboo Art Show Committee,” she said.
“Bronwyn is to be congratulated for the great work she has done for the art show and for the promotion of art in Cardinia Shire.”
The first job of the new committee was to reassess their values.
“While we want to continue to provide an opportunity for the local community to access, participate and appreciate art, we want art to be interactive, fun and present in our everyday lives,” she said.
“Looking to the future we are working to enhance the value and sustainability of art within the culture of Cardinia Shire.”
With few similar outlets for emerging artists in the shire, Jillian said one of the strengths is that the art show has a strong community focus.
Local musicians will provide the entertainment on Saturday and Sunday of the event.
The event is $2 entry, coupled with artist demonstrations and Devonshire tea, Jillian said it would be a great show.
“The new committee has introduced many new ideas and we look forward to another successful and invigorated show,” she said.
