Amott and Roberts lead the way

DROUIN GOLF

Drouin Ladies played the second and final round of the Eileen Smith 4BBB event on 23 April in glorious sunshine.

The winners of the daily event were Sue Crosby (41) and Leanne Pollard (10) with 42 points.

Runners up were Michelle Fairlie (26) and Kay Grieve (41) with 40 points.

Down the line balls went to Shirley Roberts and Helen Amott with 37 points and the team of Deb Daniel and Jeannette Phillips also on 37 points.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Shirley Roberts, 8th Judy Dixon, 8th (2nd Shot) Kay Grieve, 10th Shirley Roberts and 14th Shirley Roberts.

The winners of the Eileen Smith 4BBB Trophy for 2024 were Shirley Roberts and Helen Amott with an aggregate score over two rounds of 80 points.

Runners up were Sue Crosby and Leanne Pollard just one point behind on 79 points.

Congratulations to our Ladies Captain Leanne Pollard who partnered Dermott Berkhout to win the Anzac Day Cuthbertson Mixed event with a 78 off the stick.

Saturday 27 April was a Par event for the ladies and the winner was Deb Daniel (27) who finished square with the card.

Runner up was Kay Grieve (40) on – 2.

Round five of Monday Pennant was played at Drouin on 22 April.

Drouin had a narrow 3-2 win over Warragul 2 and the next round is on Monday 29 April at Traralgon.

The weekly competition this week is Stroke, competing for the April Monthly Medal, held over from April 2.

Tuesday 7 May is May Monthly Medal Day.

The 2024 Foursomes Championships are being held on 14 May.

Entries for either 18 or 27 holes are now open.

MEN’S

Brilliant autumn conditions attracted another huge field of 123 players to Drouin Golf and Country Club on Saturday for a Par competition.

Dean Jones led in A Grade with a score of +4 while Anthony Lillis came in runner up with +3.

B Grade had the best score of the day with Shane Wilkinson only wiping one hole on his way to +6, while Rob Ballingall was runner up with +1.

It was a tie at the top of C Grade with both David Lillis and John Wilson scoring +1.

David ended up winning on a countback while John finished runner up.

Gavin Ratcliffe won D Grade with a score of +2 with Stuart Scott the runner up with +1.

Glen Ward won the Super Six in a three-player countback with a score of +3.

The award winner for the player going the most holes before wiping one was Shane Wilkinson, who managed 13 holes before scoring a wipe.

Down the lines went to Brett Peters +1, Fred Roknic, Brad Bennett, Ken Cooper, Mitch de Wit, Kevin Thorpe, Allan Logan, Paul Timewell and David Bennett, who all finished square with the card, and Shaun Doak, Alex Slaughter, Mike Duddy, Mick Warry, Glenn Rees, Glen Ward, Phil Adams and Michael Smith on -1.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Brad Bennett (Pro Pin), 8th Ryan Hammond (Commercial Hotel), 10th Pete Downward (Sharkey’s Barbershop) and 14th Mitch de Wit.

Target Hole winner on the 11th was Matt Guy.

Wednesday

Stableford was the competition held on Wednesday with Kevin Johnson winning A Grade with a score of 37 points while John Wolswinkel came in runner up with 34 points.

In B Grade it was Brett McKeller who won with the best score for the day with 39 points.

A countback was needed for runners up with Garry Burns prevailing with 37 points.

Craig Armstrong was the Super Six winner scoring 15 points.

Down the lines went to Phil Beruldsen 37, Bruce Tucker, Graham English and John Wilson 35, and Peter Newton, Eddy Van Der Plight, Graham Rawson and Craig Armstrong with 33 points.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Dave Cavanagh, 8th Jim Bransgrove, 10th Duart Perrin and 14th Shane Dwyer.

Nick Duncan won Sunday’s Medley Stableford competition with 41 points.

Pennant Finals

The semi-finals for Men’s Pennant were played on Sunday with all three Drouin sides trying to make their way through to the final. Scratch division had a comfortable win over Trafalgar 6 and 1 and now move onto the final against Warragul.

Handicap 1 had a narrow loss against Churchill Monash 3 and 4, with two matches going the full 18 holes.

Handicap 2 is also through to the final, beating Traralgon 5 and 2 and now face Garfield in the big one this Sunday.

The final is held at Garfield this week with Handicap 2 starting at 9am and Scratch at 9:45am.

Drouin Golf and Country Club encourage as many spectators as possible to come down and support our players and hopefully bring home some trophies.

Upcoming competitions are Stableford midweek and Stroke on Saturday and Sunday.
