GARFIELD GOLF

It was a fantastic warm and sunny day at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday for the final round of the 2022 Club Championships.

It was our new green keeper Tym Davey that reigned supreme with a three round gross score of 225 to take out the title by a six-shot margin from an inform player in Tom Cowie.

A field of the 116 players presented for play on Saturday with Peter McNeish capping off a nice run of form by winning the A Grade event with a net round of 69.

McNeish made it a double by winning the A Grade handicap championship with a final score of 214.

Matt Van Der Horst got the chocolates for the B Grade event with a winning score of 68 to defeat Terry Garratt via a countback decision.

Martin Spurway won the C Grade event with the day’s equal best round of net 67 which was also achieved by Rick Manley whom won the D Grade event.

A final score of net 72 down to a count back was needed to get a ball down the line.

Phil Williams, yet another golfer in good touch, closed out the tournament with a par round of net 69 to get the B Grade handicap championship win.

Martin Atkins, courtesy of a blinder of a first round, hung on for the C Grade handicap win by a count back decision from John Hoare with a score of 211.

Greg Nicholls won the D Grade handicap title with a three-round total of 212 which was the five shots clear of Rick Manley.

Nicholls got the double with a three round D Grade gross winning score of 284.

The B Grade gross winner was Ross Mitchell with a score of 210, three shots clear of the next best in Matt Van Der Horst and Richard Perry.

The aforementioned Atkins made it a double by also winning the C Grade gross event with a score of 259 as well as scoring the three rounds of 62, 76, 73 to be crowned the 2022 Veterans champ by a count back over Terry Garratt.

Well done on an excellent tournament Marty.

The ladies also wrapped up their third and final round of the Saturday Championship and that’s right, you guessed it, Karli Van Der Horst took out yet another major annual event.

Van Der Horst won with a three-round total of net 224 defeating Tina Cowie by just one shot.
