With one more chance to claim a Monthly Medal in 2021 competition was fierce at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.

Overcast skies with hints of rain and a bit of wind didn’t deter the 92 players who took to the course.

It was Craig Stevens who prevailed though, playing a stunning back-nine to finish with a net 64 to win December’s Monthly Medal and B Grade.

A Grade went to Troy Thomas with a net 67 and Andrew Harry won C Grade with a net 65.

Down the line balls went to Jim Defoe (66), Robert Christie (66), Michael Duddy (68), Mark Allen (68), David Cavanagh (69), Jock Granger (69), Dean Robbins (69), Glenn Bayne (69) and Nicholas Gorman (69).

Nearest the pins went to Ray Haley 5th, Ken Cooper 8th, Shawn Coombs 10th and Stan Gajdobranski 14th.

With blue skies and not much wind, players revelled in the conditions in the stableford competition on Wednesday.

Of the 85 players, 28 shot their handicap or better, with 12 players reaching the 40 point mark!

Colin Kennard shot the best score of the day with an amazing 45 points to narrowly win C grade. Not far behind was Eric Robbins with 44 points…narrowly winning B grade. A grade saw another fantastic score with Kevin O’Brien scoring 42 points to take out that grade.

Down the line balls went to Peter Newton (44), Richard Snare (43), John Gardiner (43), Peter Britchford (43), Gary Burns (42), Dennis Knersch (40), Jock Granger (40) and John Gidley (40).

Nearest the pins went to Kevin O’Brien 5th, Bruce Salmon 8th, Graham Austin 10th and John Gidley 14th.

LADIES

It was the second round of the Downtowner stableford competition on Tuesday with scores improving significantly with the drier conditions.

Saturday December 4 was an individual stableford event won by Kay Feaver (17) with an amazing 43 points. Runner up was Valerie Crow (41) with 41 points.

Friday December 3, Drouin hosted the West Gippsland Ladies Foursomes Championships.

Unfortunately the Drouin girls couldn’t take the title.

The best of the Drouin girls was the formidable team of Kay Feaver and Marg Purcell who earned a ball down the line with 73.5 net. Congratulations to the winners and all the pairs who competed on the day.

Charity Day is being held this Friday 10 December, with all funds raised going to the West Gippsland Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

There is a Four-Ball stableford event for the ladies and an individual Men’s Stableford event with entry forms at the club.

Ladies Christmas lunch is on Tuesday 14 December preceded by nine holes of fun golf.

Summer match-play competition has started with round-one matches due to be completed by the end of December.

Next week’s events for both Wednesday and Saturday players are stableford.
