REVIEW – ROUND 8

PREMIER

Cranbourne fought admirably over four quarters, but the might of Olinda Ferny Creek proved too much to handle on Saturday, 58-33.

The merciless Bloods continued its winning ways on the weekend, shaking off a plucky Eagles outfit that fought hard in the first half.

At quarter time, the two sides could barely be separated, with the home side holding just a three-goal lead, but slowly asserted control over the contest to extend the lead at every change.

The Bloods finished off brilliantly in the final term, scoring 19-9.

Peri Stewart was at her usual high standard, scoring 45 goals for the Bloods, while Alice Paget and Brianna Hipwell played excellent games across the court.

Tara Cecil and Tahlia Coates (14 goals) were the best for the Eagles, who can hold their head high.

Woori Yallock, meanwhile, knocked off Narre Warren in a thriller at home, 63-56.

The Tigers could never truly shake the Magpies off, but held sway for the entire afternoon to lead at every change.

There was plenty of quality around the court for both sides, with Mia Sudomirski and Alana McGurgan brilliant for the victors, while the usual suspects, Brittany Mashado and Chloe Phillips fought hard for the Magpies, with Phillips contributing 41 goals.

In the other matches across the weekend, Upwey Tecoma pipped Berwick in a 38-37 nail-biter, while Wandin brushed aside the struggling Healesville at the Kennel, 60-38.

DIVISION 1 (ROUND 7 SPLIT)

Pakenham continues to advance its way up the Division 1 ladder, knocking off a brave Warburton Millgrove outfit to move into third spot, 47-41.

The Lions got off to a barnstorming start to lead 15-9 at quarter time, but the Burras fought back to reduce the deficit to two goals.

But the home side had too much class through the likes of Kyra Esler – who starred with 29 goals – to find just enough momentum to topple the visitors in the second-half.

In the only other game in the split round on Saturday, ROC continued its dominance with a comfortable win against Emerald, 51-33.

The Kangaroos were actually trailing by two goals at quarter time, but controlled the game after half-time, scoring 32-17 in the final two quarters to run away with yet another win.

In the other results from the round – played on the previous weekend – Doveton defeated Monbulk 42-34 away from home, while Mount Evelyn was a class above Belgrave, 56-25.
