Dodd the latest big name to sign at Devon Meadows

Jason Dodd is the latest in a series of big name signings at Devon Meadows.

DEVON Meadows has boosted its premiership chances even further by signing former Glasscock Medallist Jason Dodd for the 2016/17 West Gippsland Cricket Association (WGCA) season.

Dodd, 34, arrives at Glover Reserve after two seasons coaching Aura Vale in the Ferntree Gully Cricket Association’s (FTGDCA) second division where he scored 464 runs at 24.42 and took 48 wickets at 19.94 in all competitions. Prior to his stint at the Lakers, Dodd enjoyed a stellar career at Beaconsfield, in which he played in five premierships and represented the WGCA in multiple Country Week campaigns.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Dodd of the move to Glover Reserve. “I’ve played a lot against Devon Meadows in the past and played Country Week with Camel (Darren O’Brien) and Hutchy (Matt Hutchinson).

“The club has made some big moves in the last couple of seasons, so hopefully I can help play a role and have a bit of success on the field. It should be fun.”

The Panthers have already made plenty across the league stand up and take notice of their premiership aspirations for the upcoming season, and Dodd’s signing shows the club truly means business.

Devon Meadows president Mick Floyd said he was delighted to add another player with extensive premiership experience to the club’s first XI.

“We’re very happy to welcome Jason to the club,” he said.

“His record speaks for itself; he’ll further lengthen our batting line up and give us a different element with the ball.

“But just as importantly, he brings extensive coaching and premiership experience, which are two traits we set out to add to the group this season.”

Dodd joins his great mate Brad Miles and all-rounder and reigning WGCA District division player of the year Scott Clark as new additions at Pantherland for 2016/17. Devon Meadows will commence preseason training on Wednesday, 10 August.
