THERE’S something about the Coburg Basketball Stadium that produces thrilling finishes between the home-town Giants and the Pakenham Warriors’ Big V basketball Division 2 men’s side.
While the Warriors have been on the end of dying second heartbreakers in the past, on Saturday night Jeff Reid’s men had the last laugh – with newcomer Trent Lee capping off a superb all-around game on both ends of the floor with a go-ahead, game-winning bucket with just 2.3 seconds on the clock.
The Warriors men walked away from the scrappy affair with a 73-71 win, while earlier in the day their Youth League men’s side claimed a brilliant 74-61 debut away win over the Mildura Heat to start their season in style. Also on Saturday night, the Warriors’ Big V women’s side gallantly went down to the Cougars 64-41 in Keysborough.
