Demons and Stars fight out tense draw

By RUSSELL BENNETT

WHAT is it about Kooweerup and Garfield?
The Demons defeated the Stars by two points in Round 6, Round 20 and the preliminary final of last season and today – another absolute nailbiter.
Denis Pagan once described a draw as ‘like dancing with your sister’, such is the hollow feeling. And that echoed the atmosphere today at Denhams Road as the final siren blared. Players, coaches and fans alike stood gobsmacked, hands on hips as Kooweerup and Garfield split the points.
It’s hard to pinpoint what the two sides can take out of the result – the Demons have looked like a V8 running on six cylinders in recent weeks, while the Stars – missing some big names – have also been doing it tough.
But if today’s result – 8.9 (57) apiece – proves anything, it’s just how strong the modern rivalry is between the two sides. Neither are anywhere near their best at this early stage of the year, but both will be there at the business end.
Check out the two videos below – the first of Tyler McDonald’s set shot, which sailed through the big sticks as the last scoring shot of the game; and the second of the dying stages of the clash (there is a language warning).
