Runaway win for Rawson

A beautiful winter’s day greeted the 131 players contesting the July Monthly Medal at Drouin Golf Club.

Graham Rawson was the runaway winner on the day thanks to a fantastic back nine which featured one par and five birdies.

Graham finished seven shots clear of the chasing pack to claim the medal.

A fantastic 69 off the stick saw Mark Allen claim the win in A Grade playing of scratch, while Kevin Thorpe was the runner up with a nett 70 and Paul Matthews was third with a nett 73.

Paul Barratt was the winner of B Grade with a nett 69 while a countback between the next three players was needed for the minor placings.

Kevin Johnson finished runners up and Mat Elliot was third with both players scoring a nett 73.

In C Grade Jim Bransgrove was the winner with nett 71.

Runner up was Warren Cook with nett 72 and Mark Jensen Schmidt was third on a countback with nett 73.

Monthly Medal winner Graham Rawson won D Grade with nett 62 while Phil Mason was runner up with nett 71 and Peter Steer was third with nett 72.

The E Grade winner was Scott McKinnon who had a nett 69.

Marty Green was the runner up with nett 71 and third place went to Tim Lawrence with nett 72.

To cap off a great day Graham Rawson won the super six with 16 points on a countback.

Down the lines went to Glenn Robinson, Glenn Bayne, Jamie Sparrow, Jonathan Risdale and Cam Snell 73, Matt Guy, Ryan Radford, Luke Hughes, Matt Long, Ryan Hammond, Geoff Searle, Anthony Lillis and Gareth Rees 74, and Jordy Wyatt, Gary Florence, Rohan Berkhout, Shane Dwyer and Ray Haley with 75.

Target Hole winner on the 17th was Mat Elliot.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Joel Thomson (Pro Pin), 8th Gary Florence (Commercial Hotel), 10th Marcus Cameron (Sharkey’s Barbershop) and 14th Matt Long (Jakks Pizza Shack).

Stableford was last week’s mid-week competition with a field of 92 players.

In A Grade the win went to Pete Downward who had 38 points, one point ahead of runner up Jordy Wyatt with 37 points.

Neil Wyatt won B Grade with 36 points while Roger Crow was the runner up with 35 points.

C Grade winner was Tim Lawrence who scored 37 points and Bruce Tucker was the runner up with 34 points.

The Super Six was won by Jordy Wyatt with 17 points.

Down the lines went to Brian Seers and Mark Johnson 36, Glenn Bayne, Kevin Thorpe and Cam Snell 34, Ron Tomasetti and Graham Rawson 33, Tony Appleby, John Banfield and Shane Dwyer 32, and Matt Long and Rob Piner 31.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Glenn Vanderlight, 10th Dave Ferguson and 14th Cam Snell.

The Medley Stableford played on Sunday was won by Nicholas Macdonald who scored 43 points. Blaze Bester won a ball down the line with 33 points.

Upcoming competitions are Stableford tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin Ladies turned out for the playing of the July Monthly Medal last Tuesday.

The A Grade winner was Leanne Pollard with nett 76 and runner up was Shirley Roberts with nett 79.

The B Grade winner was Michelle Fairlie with nett 76 and runner up was Sue Crosby with nett 81.

Best gross score for the day was Leanne Pollard with an 86 off the stick.

Balls down the line went to Judy Dixon, Helen Moon and Judy Bibby.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Shirley Roberts, 8th Helen Amott, 10th Vanessa Campbell and 14th Leanne Pollard.

Having tied with scores of nett 76, Leanne and Michelle will play off in August for the July Monthly Medal.

Marg Purcell had a great day on Saturday, winning the day with a nett 82 and also taking out the nearest the pin.
