Cardinia is back on the winner’s list with a 1-0 win over Frankston in the Men’s Metro 2 South competition.

On an ugly day for hockey, the Storm adapted to the conditions well, departing from their typical pacy game style for a week which worked well as they dominated general play at Beacon Hills.

Coach Peter Turner returned to the lineup and was part of a new-look forward trio, alongside skipper Scott Burnett and goal-scorer Gareth Ventom.

The Storm had plenty of shots on target, including a lethal Turner drag flick, but the only one which found the back of the net was a deflection in general play by Ventom which gave Cardinia the three points.

Centre-half Ben Quill was best afield with a dominant display controlling proceedings.

Cardinia’s patience and willingness to switch the ball and pick the right options going forward was significant.

The result keeps Cardinia six points clear on top of the ladder ahead of a top-of-the-table clash against Glen Eira.

The women had a 4-1 loss to Old Haileybury and is currently seventh on the table with four wins and four draws.
