Ballarto Rd roundabout open

The new roundabout at Ballarto Road is open.

A new roundabout on Healesville-Kooweerup Road has officially been open to traffic, as upgrade works progress on the busy thoroughfare.

North and south-bound traffic moved onto the new roundabout at Ballarto Road for the first time on Thursday 27 April.

Work is still continuing to upgrade the east and westbound lanes on Ballarto Road at the Healesville-Kooweerup Road intersection.

Once complete, the new roundabout at Ballarto Road will make it safer for drivers turning into or crossing Healesville-Kooweerup Road.

The Healesville-Kooweerup Road upgrade also recorded two significant milestones last month: completing the intersection upgrade at Greenhills Road that included the installation of new traffic lights; and moving traffic onto the newly constructed section of Healesville-Kooweerup Road between Greenhills Road and Deep Creek.

The intersection upgrade at Greenhills Road was completed after a 10-week works blitz.

There is currently one lane open in each direction on the newly constructed section of Healesville-Kooweerup Road between Greenhills Road and Deep Creek, while workers upgrade the new southbound lanes on Healesville-Kooweerup Road.

Once turned on later in the project, the intersection’s new traffic lights will improve safety for drivers turning in and out of Greenhills Road and make it easier and safer for everyone to travel around Pakenham South.

Workers have also widened the intersection to allow for extra lanes along Healesville-Kooweerup Road, which will move more drivers through the intersection and reduce congestion.

The Healesville-Kooweerup Upgrade is adding an extra lane in each direction, upgrading intersections and installing safety barriers between Southeast Boulevard and Manks Road.

Once complete, the Healesville-Kooweerup Road Upgrade will deliver significantly safer driving conditions and lower the risk and severity of crashes.

The upgrade will also improve traffic flow and travel times, provide an upgraded alternative north-south route in the Pakenham South area, introduce a new link to the southeast walking and cycling network, and create local jobs and supply opportunities for local businesses.

The Healesville-Kooweerup Road Upgrade is expected to be complete by 2025.
