The Pakenham Racing Club (PRC) committee has acknowledged and thanked retiring chairman Simon Conn for his long-standing commitment and service to the PRC, as he closed-out his final day in the job on Tuesday 28 March.

Mr Conn served on the PRC committee for 24 years, including nine as treasurer, 10 as vice chairman and the four as chairman, having overseen a period of significant growth and success.

He held key committee executive positions throughout the club’s entire racecourse relocation project, the biggest undertaking in the club’s near 150-year history.

“From the early planning, funding negotiations, construction and then finally opening the operation, Simon’s considered manner coupled with his commercial and finance acumen has guided the club through many challenges,” the club said.

“In recognition of this guidance and on-going commitment, Simon was bestowed life membership of the PRC in 2018.”

Rick Tyrrell, the club’s vice chairman for the past four years, will succeed Mr Conn as chairman.

Mr Tyrrell said he was honoured to take on the role, and congratulated his predecessor on his tenure.

“I look forward to working with the committee, management, and staff of the club to continue the great work that Simon has done over the years,” Mr Tyrrell said.

“The Pakenham Racing Club has achieved great success under Simon’s leadership, and his tireless efforts and dedication will be missed.

“Simon’s vision and commitment to excellence have helped make the Pakenham Racing Club the great institution that it is today.

“We are confident that the team at the Pakenham Racing Club will continue to build on the club’s rich history and take it to even greater heights.”

Julian Christian will join the committee following Conn’s departure, bringing with him 18 years of experience at Racing Victoria.
