Local residents who are passionate about improving disability services in the Cardinia Shire are being encouraged to join the council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee for 2022, with applications now open.

People from across the shire with either a lived experience of disability, a background as a carer or support person of someone with a disability, or representatives of community groups and disability organisations are all encouraged to apply to join the committee and let their voices be heard.

The committee provides a forum for Cardinia Shire residents, businesses and community groups representing the interests of people with a disability in our area to share their thoughts and help shape the shire for the better.

The committee is responsible for monitoring, reviewing and supporting the council’s Access and Inclusion Disability Strategy and Action plan – helping our municipality become more accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities into the future.

By being a part of the committee, residents will provide information and timely advice to the council on issues impacting people with a disability which prevent full involvement and inclusion in community life.

Committee members act as ambassadors for the disability community through advocacy, promoting information, training, activities and issues relating to disability in the Cardinia Shire, as well as providing advice on the council’s building and facilities access upgrade program of works and budget.

Meetings are held bi-monthly, on each third Wednesday of alternate months from 10am to midday and can be attended either in person or online.

They are held at the Outlook Community Centre, which is located at 24 Toomuc Valley Road, Pakenham.

For more details on the application process including selection criteria, visit cardinia.vic.gov.au/accessandinclusion or call the Access and Inclusion Team on 1300 787 624

An informal interview will be conducted with selected applicants.

Applications are now open and will close on Friday 25 February – so if you are interested, be sure to get in quick!
