Feedback invited on coastal walk

The draft Access and Infrastructure Plan for the new Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park is now available for community feedback.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale said anyone interested, including residents from further afield who may use the parkm has until Sunday 16 May to provide feedback.

Following extensive consultation with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, the Bass Coast Shire Council and the community, the draft plan maps out the network of trails for a variety of users, proposed visitor areas, car parking and amenities to improve visitors’ experience all the way along the iconic trail linking San Remo to Inverloch via the rugged Bass Coast.

The ideas of over 800 community members have helped to develop this draft plan.

Dan Turnbull, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation CEO, said the project would allow the organisation to protect local Aboriginal heritage.

“The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation is proud to be part of this project, as it allows us to communicate and protect our values and heritage in this amazing cultural landscape.”

The State Government is committing $19.6 million to the park and the consultation period will ensure that community priorities are at the forefront when finalising the draft plan.

Feedback to-date has indicated that the community in the Bass electorate wants a trail that respects the natural and cultural environment and showcases the beauty of the coastline between San Remo and Inverloch.

The creation of the new Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park is an election commitment of the State Government, providing greater environmental protections and safeguarding the coastline for future generations.

Ms Crugnale encouraged all Victorians, locals, visitors and interested people and groups to read the draft Access and Infrastructure Plan and provide feedback online at www.engage.vic.gov.au/yallock-bulluk

Opportunities for face-to-face and online feedback will also be available throughout April 2021.

Visit the Engage Victoria webpage for details or register your interest by emailing ParkPlan@parks.vic.gov.au or calling 13 1963.

Key dates and locations for face-to face engagement activities are:

– Monday 19 April, 4pm – 7pm at Kilcunda Community Hall

– Tuesday 20 April, 3pm – 6pm at Wonthaggi Library

– Saturday 24 April, 10am – 1pm at Inverloch Community Hub

“Community input plays a huge part in helping us to provide the best experiences for locals and visitors to the Bass Coast,” Ms Crugnale said.

“What we have seen this last year is people wanting to immerse themselves in nature and the outdoors – so if you live in Pakenham or Clyde, Cranbourne or Narre Warren this is your coastline too, your walking trail and your regional backyard only an hour or so away so please let us know your thoughts and ideas.”
