The Armed Crime Squad is investigating after a man allegedly drove himself to Casey Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Emergency services were called to the Berwick hospital just before 2.30am on Sunday morning, 6 December, following reports a man had presented with serious injuries.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman confirmed the man, whose age remains unknown, had sustained upper body injuries.

He was treated by hospital staff before being transported to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined, but the matter is being treated as suspicious.

An eyewitness told the Gazette that a bullet hole could “definitely” be seen in the passenger seat window.

Crime scene detectives were seen conducting a thorough search of the car at about 10.30am, which was later covered in plastic to be towed away.

The car had been parked outside the hospital’s emergency department, meaning all arrivals were forced to enter through the main entrance.

SES volunteers remained on scene for about nine hours.

It remains unknown where the alleged shooting took place or if it is linked to a fatal shooting in Oakleigh South on Sunday morning.

“Investigations into both incidents are still ongoing,” the police spokeswoman added.
