A brand new primary precinct at a private Christian school in Officer is set to be completed by the first day of the 2021 school year, after a $5 million funding boost. Construction on Heritage College’s major build is well underway, with the existing primary building to be converted into a new precinct.

The precinct will feature a second building, undercover area and additional classroom spaces including seven new classrooms, a music room and a multi-purpose area.

According to plans, developed by Kneeler Design Architects, a covered canopy will connect the two buildings, with an additional basketball court to be built in the outdoor recreation space.

The project will also double the amount of available car parking spaces on-site and will create additional drop off and pick up zones.

As reported by the Gazette in December last year, Heritage College received a share of a $402 million State Government package for Catholic and independent schools over the next four years.

Currently, more than a third of Victorian students attend non-government schools.

Heritage College principal Sonny Aiono said the local community would benefit from the major project.

He said the funding was “certainly a blessing from God and an answer to prayer”.

“This project will allow us to build on our strong enrolment growth and offer a diverse range of learning options for families,” Mr Aiono said.

“We are grateful for the State Government’s support in providing this substantial funding, which allows us to meet the demands of growth in the local community.”

The project is on track to be completed and ready for students by the first day of Term 1 in 2021.
