Eight active cases of Coronavirus have been detected in the Cardinia Shire, as of Tuesday 14 July.

The latest figures from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) comes on a day that the state recorded 270 new cases, since Monday 13 July.

The total number of cases in Victoria is now at 4224.

Of the new cases, 28 are linked to known outbreaks and 242 are under investigation. It’s not yet known where the Cardinia cases are linked to.

There is 29 active cases in Casey, three in Baw Baw and three in Bass Coast.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said stage three restrictions had become necessary due to the sharp increase in cases.

“These are tough measures, but this virus is not selective – it will impact anyone it encounters, and personal contact is the clear source of its transmission,” Prof Sutton said.

“We need everyone to do their part and ensure it is stopped in its tracks.”

As previously reported by the Gazette, a St Francis Xavier College student from the Beaconsfield campus recently tested positive for the virus, as did two employees from the Pakenham East Train Maintenance Depot and an employee at the West Gippsland Hospital.
