There are four active cases of Covid-19 in the Cardinia Shire, with an extra positive case recorded on Sunday 12 July.

The new case brings the Shire’s total number of cases to 26, and follows two positive cases recorded on Saturday.

It’s not yet known if the cases are related to known clusters.

Meanwhile, Casey currently has 22 active cases and Baw Baw Shire Council – which is not subject to stage three restrictions – has three active Covid cases.

Victoria recorded 273 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, with the total number of cases now at 3799.

The overall total has increased by 239, after 34 cases were reclassified – largely due to duplication.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said stay at home restrictions had become “necessary” because of the sharp increases in cases.

”This Stay at Home direction will apply to your principal place of residence – which means you need to stay home and not use a holiday home,” Prof Sutton said.

”These are tough measures, but this virus is not selective – it will impact anyone it encounters, and personal contact is the clear source of its transmission. We need everyone to do their part and ensure it is stopped in its tracks.”
