Almost 150 pairs of socks will soon be on the feet of vulnerable people, thanks to the generous Chairo Christian School community.

The Pakenham school – which has been supporting the Salvation Army for many years – recently decided to initiate a winter sock appeal to help those impacted by the ongoing effects of Covid-19.

“The school wanted to support the Salvation Army Appeal in a more concrete way rather than monetary donations,” head of junior school Lydia Tweedie explained.

“The school encourages students to be involved with non-for-profit activities and the winter sock appeal was a way of the school supporting the community in a practical way.”

Pakenham Salvation Army captain Dale Saunders and team leader Amanda Fleming recently visited the school to collect two bins full of the warm winter socks.

The socks are set to be distributed both locally and to the Salvation Army’s Melbourne city project, which supports vulnerable homeless people living on the streets of Melbourne.
