Creating sustainable homes

By Jessica Anstice

A new community project has been launched to help teach Cardinia shire residents about disposing of waste properly and the local environment.

Cardinia Shire Council’s Green Homes and Garden Project aims to connect the community by having residents share their sustainable home and garden creations online.

With a range of free waste and environmental resources, tools and activities, community members can have fun and learn new things at home, as well as ask questions.

Some of the online resources and activities include free downloadable colouring and activity sheets and tips on how to start composting.

An online space called ‘birding at home’ will allow residents to post photos and ask experts to help identify which birds are visiting Cardinia shire backyards.

Another space will encourage residents to inspire or be inspired by the many ways to live sustainably at home.

The resources are designed to be enjoyed by both adults and children at home, to help with home schooling or just a bit of fun.
