A jointly funded $7.2 million project will see a reserve in Officer equipped with a new multi-use community and sporting pavilion.

Local Government Minister Adem Somyurek joined Eastern Victoria MP Harriet Shing and Cardinia Shire Council mayor Jeff Springfield at Comely Banks Reserve on Monday 25 November to turn the first sod and mark the beginning of works on the recreation reserve.

The pavilion will include four sets of change rooms, four umpire change rooms and several spaces for community activities.

“This new pavilion will be bricks and mortar proof of our commitment to residents across Cardinia,” Ms Shing said.

“Thanks to the Growing Suburbs Fund, our booming population in Officer can enjoy better sports facilities.”

The Growing Suburbs Fund has provided $3.5 million for the Comely Banks project, with Cardinia Shire Council funding the remaining $3.7 million.

Over five years, $250 million will be invested in local infrastructure in the state’s fast growing outer suburbs, like Cardinia.

Since 2015, $18.6 million has been put towards 10 projects including the Deep Creek Reserve development and Cardinia Cultural Centre re-development.

“Whether it’s upgraded sporting facilities, better community spaces or new community centres, we’re delivering the facilities our growing communities need,” Mr Somyurek said.

“This project will be a great home for Cardinia’s community and sports group, with enough room for everyone.”

The Comely Banks Recreation Reserve is expected to be complete by September 2021.
