The hardworking volunteers at the Pakenham Op Shop distributed $100,000 back to the community at their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 29 August.

A dedicated group comprised entirely of women, the Station Street op shop commenced operation in Pakenham in 1959 and has been going strong since.

A range of local organisations within Cardinia Shire were the lucky recipients this year, including 20 fire brigades and several local ‘self-help’ groups.

“It was another busy, but rewarding year for the Pakenham Op Shop under the leadership of Win Reed, who inspires us all with her dedication,” Secretary Bev Burley said.

“From our successful year’s trading we are able to distribute $100,000 to local organisations within Cardinia Shire.

“I wish to say thank you to the committee for their support and concern over the past year and to all volunteers for taking on extra jobs when required.”

The Pakenham RSL will put their donation towards a display cabinet for memorabilia, while Pakenham SES plans to add their share to a new truck fund.

The op shop will also sponsor local entrants in the Yakkerboo Art Show alongside the annual Yakkerboo Festival.

“It’s one of my favourite events on the calendar,” said Bass MP Brian Paynter, who attended on the day.

The incoming committee for 2018 will comprise of Win Reed as President, Margaret Gray as Vice President, Bev Burley as Secreatary, Sue Johns as Treasurer, and Val Hilyear, Faye Outridge and Rae Plummer as the remainder of the group.
