Violent carjacking in Pakenham CBD

 A gang of African appearance has allegedly held a victim at gunpoint during a frightening carjacking near Pakenham’s central shopping district on Friday afternoon, 3 August.

Police say up to seven men approached the victim, parked on Savage Street in his gold Holden Commodore at about 2.40pm, and demanded his keys.

One of the offenders then produced a gun and held it towards the driver, despite several witnesses watching on in horror.

The victim then surrendered the vehicle, prompting one of the men to steal the car.

The others reportedly fled on foot.

One bystander told the Gazette the victim was devastated, running into Target nearby to alert staff.

“He was in a really bad way,” she said.

“The whole incident was really gobsmacking.

“They were gone in a heartbeat and he couldn’t process what had happened to him.”

Police confirmed the victim was not injured during the incident.

The stolen Commodore was dumped on Gallery Way, Pakenham later in the afternoon.

Detectives will undertake forensic testing on the vehicle.

The culprits remain at large.
