SOCCER WRAP – ROUND 13

STATE LEAGUE 1 – SOUTH EAST

The Casey Comets’ fledgling form continued on Friday night, going down 0-1 to Manningham United at Comets Stadium.

On a nippy Friday night, the Blues found a goal in the first five minutes, and were never headed in a strong defensive display.

As a result of the loss, the Comets are just two points from the bottom, with Morwell Pegasus still with a chance of leapfrogging the struggling side in the coming weeks.

STATE LEAGUE 2 – SOUTH EAST

Berwick City churned out a solid Friday night win, defeating Doncaster Rovers 2-0 at Anderson Park.

City got the fast break with Andres Jerez scoring in the ninth minute, before Jerez once again converted, this time through a penalty in the second half to give his side a comfortable win.

Down at Waratah Reserve, Doveton SC picked up a quality 5-2 win over Mooroolbark, solidifying their position on top of the table.

STATE LEAGUE 5 – SOUTH

In a hard-fought clash between two great rivals, Bunyip Strikers picked up a 1-0 victory over Pakenham United.

The Strikers were strong defensively and ensured the United attacking half couldn’t get enough chances at goal, in a brilliant display.

In other matches, Aspendale SC drew 2-2 with Endeavour Hills Fire, Knox United were too strong in a 6-0 win over Drouin Dragons, while Old Mentonians did enough in their 3-1 victory over Rowville Eagles. Lyndale drew 0-0 with White Star Dandenong and Somerville defeated Chelsea FC 2-1.

Casey Panthers had the bye.
