For award winning artist Graham Dean, his inspiration is simple: make people laugh.

The recent Pakenham Art Show award winner is hosting an exhibition at Gate 6 Gallery in Berwick from 3 June to 24 June.

He hopes to shed light on his journey as a sculptor and a digital artist.

Known for his quirky and whimsical pieces, which are often laced with dark humour, the Pakenham resident has developed a strong following in recent years.

The exhibition, my mind threw a party, I wasn’t invited, will showcase a variety of his work, encompassing ceramics, painting and drawing.

“I like my work to be funny and for people to engage with it,” Mr Dean said.

“But I think there’s also plenty of room to inject some dark humour in there.”

Mr Dean accrued popularity after recently being bestowed with a Local Artist Award at Pakenham’s Art Show.

It was a great honour for Mr Dean to be recognised for his work.

My mind threw a party, I wasn’t invited also features pieces on which he has collaborated with other contemporary artists such as Annette Slattery, Monique Clift and Elma Young.

Also on exhibition in June in the Gate 6 Studio is a series of nudes by print maker and painter Heather Merrett called Shapes and Sizes together with a preview of the upcoming art competition Strip Art.
