A bus driver hospitalised with serious leg fractures and soft tissue injuries following an accident in Pakenham is on the mend.
The man has had a lucky escape after being involved in a collision between a Ventura bus and a tip-truck on the Princes Highway on 7 February shortly after 7am.
The incident is under investigation by police, but it is understood the driver had just left the local bus depot to commence his shift when the incident occurred.
Paramedics were quickly called to the scene of the accident, between Doherty Street and Purton Road, and treated the bus driver, in his forties, before transporting him to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
A hospital spokesperson on 8 February said he was in a stable condition.
Ventura Bus Lines’ southern regional manager. Derek Wood said while investigations were ongoing, it was the company’s belief the man had driven in accordance to Ventura’s policy and Victorian road rules.
Mr Wood said the man was being supported by the company and his family.
He confirmed there were no passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics had also assessed another man, in his sixties, at the scene of the crash but he refused to be taken to hospital.
