Two Labertouche roads will receive $1.6 million worth of upgrades, Baw Baw Shire has announced.
Sections of Labertouche North and Labertouche roads have been identified as key road priority projects to be jointly funded through the council’s 2017/18 Capital Works Budget and contributions from the Victorian Government.
As part of the project, Labertouche North Road will have the final seven kilometres of road upgraded to a sealed road standard and will include works to improve road safety.
It follows sealing works earlier this year on the rest of the road.
The section of Labertouche Road between the Tarago River and Jacksons Track will undergo safety improvement works.
The road will be widened, with a small section reconstructed to extend the life of the road.
Baw Baw Shire Mayor Joe Gauci said the condition of the two roads had deteriorated in recent years, “resulting in excessive dust and corrugations in the summer months and deep potholes and flooding in the winter”.
“This upgrade project will see vital safety works to seal and widen these roads helping to eliminate dust and prevent the road becoming muddy and slippery in wet conditions,” Mr Gauci said.
The contract for the road works, including sealing, is expected to be awarded in December with works commencing in January 2018.
